IELTS Speaking Practice Questions Part 1
IELTS Speaking Part 1 Questions
Work is always a popular subject for IELTS speaking exam questions , talking about your past jobs, what you do now and what you hope to do in the future. So you shouldn’t be surprised that you might be asked about this, therefore need to practise what you would say.
What vocabulary might you need to discuss work?
What tenses might you need to listen for or try to include to show off your English?
How might Part 1 questions on work be different to when we looked at Part 2 or 3 questions?
Do you need to tell the truth if you haven’t worked or have a ‘boring’ job?
If you are currently a lower level, like 4 or 5, try to use a thesaurus to look up some synonyms for any words you already know and try to replace them with the higher level words to increase your score.
If you struggle with speaking fluently, write your answer down and then practise reading it until you feel comfortable using those words and grammar.
Here are a couple of practice questions for you:
Do you have a job? If so, what do you do?
What job would you like to have in the future?
Try recording your answer to check for any incorrect grammar. Then consider how you might improve your answer by adding in higher level vocabulary or maybe an idiom.
Remember you don’t have to always just use the truth 😉 – You just need to show off your English to the highest level you can.
How many different jobs can you list in 2 minutes?
Which one would be your ‘dream’ job?
