IELTS Reading Practice Questions

 

One of the types of questions my students have found hardest to answer are the Yes/No/Not Given or True/False/Not Given ones.

Here is an interesting article and some IELTS reading practice questions I have written. Answers below.

Skim read the passage in about 2 minutes

What are the main ideas?

Read the passage again more slowly. Were your answers after skimming the passage correct?

 

Questions

 

Answer True, False or Not Given to the following statements.

 

  1. The original study was designed to look at brain function of a thousand Americans.
  2. After 15 years of the study, Mr Elias started looking at what the participants ate.
  3. The research found that eating chocolate every day helped with remembering details better and multitasking.
  4. Only clever people were included in the study.
  5. The scientists are sure it is the flavanols in the chocolate that make the brain work better.

 

Tips

Tips

 

In the exam, 5 questions should take you about 6-7 minutes after you have skimmed the passage.

Don’t get stuck answering a question. Guess and move on.

Make sure you answer using the right word i.e. ‘true’ not ‘yes’

Take note of superlative or extreme key words like ‘always’, ‘never’, ‘best’, ‘every’, ‘certain’
